We celebrate Mother Tongues this week!
Mother Tongue means more than language for us and includes the child's personal, social and cultural identity. A lot of research shows that a strong mother tongue foundation leads to a better understanding of the programme offered at school and a positive attitude in our children. The ISL Language policy encourages students to use their mother tongue when possible.
11. Mother Tongue
11.1 Primary School- All students are given opportunities to express themselves in their mother tongue in Primary school. They are invited to share language and culture related to their mother tongue through Units of Inquiry, productions, performances, and celebrations across the school. Mother Tongue day is celebrated during the month of February in Primary School through various engagements planned during the day. Students in Primary school whose native language is not English are encouraged to speak in their mother tongue during Student Led Conferences.
We celebrate the diversity we find at ISL and respect the differences and similarities we come across.A big "Thank you" to all the parents who have helped share information about their culture and language this week with our students. We sincerely appreciate your input.
Zikomo dear parents for your continued support :)
