School Enterprise Challenge

We are thrilled to announce the launch of the International School Enterprise Challenge at ISL, which is a globally recognised entrepreneurship programme for high school students. Over the course of this semester our students in Year 10 will learn how to build teams, create their own product or service, and finally design and set up their own business.

We hope that by Semester 1 in Year 11 we will have students who will be running their own companies and start ups! At each stage of the programme students will also be competing against schools across the globe and could potentially win start up investment worth up to $10 000.

This is an important project which has taken months to plan and resource, but I am very excited that we can bring in this focus to the IGCSE programme. As educators part of out job to look to the future an anticipate the challenges students will face when they leave school as well as the skills they will require to succeed.

In an ever complex world filled with uncertainty, what is becoming increasingly clear is in order to solve the big problems of the 21st century we need people who are innovators! Innovation can offer vital solutions to economic, social and cultural dilemmas. Innovative societies are more productive, more resilient, more adaptable and better able to support higher living standards.

Therefore, to prepare for the future, students should be able to think creatively, develop new products and services, new jobs, new processes and methods, new ways of thinking and living, new enterprises, new sectors, new business models and new social models. Equipping young people with the skills to become innovators is exactly at the crux of the School Enterprise Challenge.

However, innovation springs not just from individuals thinking and working alone, but through cooperation and collaboration with others to draw on existing knowledge to create new knowledge. This is exactly why throughout the programme students will be working in teams and they will be assessed as a team.

Through the School Enterprise Challenge we hope to develop students' adaptability, creativity, curiosity and open-mindedness.
