Welcome to the new school year

Welcome to the new school year, and a special welcome to our new families. Although our start is once again affected by the coronavirus, we can look forward to a wonderful year ahead. If you didn’t already, you can read about our new teachers here - we welcome them to our team. We can also celebrate a number of successes, which you may read about here. All in all, school is in good shape and ready for the challenges and opportunities ahead.

If you read my previous post, you will know that school opens next week (Monday 9th August 2021) for home-based learning with the target of opening for school-based learning a couple of weeks later (Monday 23rd August 2021). Our home-based learning is facilitated through Google Classroom for year three and above, while year two and below uses SeeSaw along with video conferencing. By now, the principals will have contacted you with more information on this. If you are having any issues with home-based learning, please do get in touch with your division principal (Sunita Nair pp@isl.sch.zm in primary and Craig Patterson sp@isl.sch.zm in secondary) or reach out to us using one of our COVID hotlines. We want to make these two weeks of home-based learning as successful as possible while we build support in the association for a substantial return to campus on 23rd August.

The coronavirus will be brought under control in due course through a combination of vaccination and natural immunity. Although the virus will not go away as we - or at least I - once hoped, it will become a manageable nuisance. Barring any unforeseen deterioration in the situation, we look forward to increasing normality at school, beginning with a substantial return to campus on the 23rd. From that date there will be academic classes only, like last year. We hope in due course to resume after school activities and field trips, as these are important parts of students’ experience of our school.

Once again, welcome to all new students, parents and teachers to our school. I would like to thank all association members - parents and staff - for their support as we begin the new school year.
