Secondary university and careers guidance in Semester 1

I hope that this finds you all well and ready to embark on another school year. I wanted to take this opportunity to give you an idea of the plans in place to support your children this year as they, at various stages, prepare for their Secondary school experience and beyond.

My name is Suwilo Namfukwe and I am the new Guidance and Careers Counselor. I am a Clinical Psychotherapist with over 10 years experience working in a variety of settings including schools, universities, and with individuals. There is more about me on the school's blog for those of you who would like a bit more information about who I am and where I’m coming from.

I am looking forward to working with both yourselves and the students to provide the best support possible in helping them along this journey through their high school years and have the following programs planned for this semester:

AUGUST

Parent & Student Workshop - Years 12-13 "Beyond The DP"

We will be looking at how to be preparing for life after graduation, university applications, options available to students after the DP programme, and accessing support throughout these final years

SEPTEMBER

Parent Workshop - Years 7-9 "Guidance Tracking"

We will be looking at our plans to support and track the academic and developmental progress your children will be making throughout their high school experience in an effort to set them up for a smooth transition from the high school years to the years beyond.

Workshop - Years 10-11 "The IGCSE Years"

We will be looking at plans in place to help students begin to narrow down their strengths in order to plan for future careers and university selection

Workshop - Year 13 "Dealing with the Deadlines"

We will be looking at the upcoming deadlines and all the requirements for meeting those deadlines and applying to Universities

OCTOBER

Student Success Support

During this month of deadlines, we will focus on providing individual and group support for students and parents to ensure deadlines are met.

NOVEMBER

Parent Workshop - “University Preparations”

We will be looking at how parents can be planning and preparing to send their children off to university

Other workshops and events will be announced throughout the semester and dates for the workshops listed above will be provided in due course. I am also more than happy to schedule individual meetings with anyone who would like to meet with me one-on-one, so please do not hesitate to contact me via email if you’d like to schedule an appointment.
