On Tuesday 22nd February 2022 the Student Support Services held a parent workshop to affirm, confirm and give insights on learning and thinking differences. The workshop is part of a series of workshops aimed at unpacking the different learning difficulties that we may come across at the International School of Lusaka. This particular workshop served to give an overview of what learning and thinking differences are as well as gave parents a practical experience of the challenges one might encounter when faced with circumstances that challenge learning. Three main areas of student focus were
student wellness, accommodations and student agency. Acknowledging and recognising the different emotions a student feels during the learning process and how it affects their motivation and effort were keys to understanding:
The need for accommodations that support success in learning and
Student agency that helps students communicate their needs so that they get the support they need to experience success.
Because success looks different for everyone, it is important to understand the various difficulties that students may face in the classroom and how to intervene for them.
