Coronavirus update

The World Health Organisation on Friday declared Coronavirus to be a global health emergency. As a result of this, we will be implementing simple measures to reduce the risk of infection. These include:

  • Putting more emphasis on cleaning hands with soap and water.
  • Providing hand sanitizer in all the classrooms and school offices.

Our school nurse, Edith Lemba, is spearheading these internal initiatives.

As a school, we are in daily contact with the Ministry of Health and periodic contact with the local branch of the CDC. We continue to be guided by the advice we receive from these agencies. The government of Zambia has implemented screening at airports and ports and has set up a coronavirus action unit at Chilanga health centre. As of this morning, there are no cases reported.

We have two families that have recently returned from China and who have undertaken voluntary self-quarantine at home to further reduce the already small risk to our school from the coronavirus. The recommended period of self-quarantine is fourteen days. I would like to recognise publicly and to thank these families, along with the rest of our Chinese community for their proactivity and vigilance in this matter.

  1. Thank you for the update. This appears very sensible and in line with the current WHO suggested guidelines.
