I am happy to let all of you know that we will be resuming field trips this school year and that this will be done at no additional cost to parents. Field trips are a vital part of the school experience for our students; we are committed to conducting them in a safe and engaging manner for as many students as possible.
Our COVID-19 Task Force (CTF) considered revised procedures for conducting trips safely and approved our proposal to resume trips as soon as practicable. Their approval was subject to a risk assessment led by our Field Trip Coordinator, Ms. Barbara Duvivier. This has been completed for the imminent trips and will be done for the remainder also. Please find here a summary of the assessment that was helped win the approval of the CTF. We are optimistic that the risk posed by the virus will be minimized by our revised processes, which will include a mandatory COVID test for all participants prior to the trip.
Our Board of Governors has decided to fund field trips for the current school year, 2021 to 2022, from general revenue. This means that the school will absorb all costs for students to go on field trips, including the cost of the diagnostic tests for COVID-19 that will be used as a screening tool for outbound field trip participants. Please join me in thanking our board for this generous initiative, helping to reduce out-of-pocket expenses for ISL families.
The relevant staff will reach out to you with more information, including the dates of the field trips and other related information in due course. I am sure students will welcome the opportunity to participate in a trip after such a protracted hiatus.
This is encouraging news, thanks to all concerned for working so hard towards getting our kids' school experience closer to normal.
