In spite of being vaccinated, I managed to catch COVID and spent Christmas feeling unwell. While it was the worst Christmas ever, I cannot really complain because the resulting illness was not particularly severe. However, I can attest that, even if vaccinated, as I am, you can catch the virus, you can spread the virus and it can make you ill. This raises the obvious question - is it worth getting vaccinated?
The answer I give is that yes, it is worth getting vaccinated and if you haven't done that yet, my advice is to go and do so. From what I understand, the virtue of vaccines is not necessarily that they prevent you from catching the virus but they make the resulting illness much less severe. You may have noticed with the current wave of infections that the case numbers have been high but the hospitalizations and deaths have been quite moderate. This may be because the disease is inherantly less severe but is likely also due at leats in part to vaccination. So, while vaccination may not stop you getting COVID it may stop you getting really ill.
It's easy and convenient to get vaccinated and there are many places in the city where this is done, all of them completely free of charge. Vaccination is now available for children over 12 as well. Please do consider getting vaccinated and taking your loved ones with you - it may prevent serious illness.
