Dear Parents and Students of Year 7, 8, 9, 10,12
As you may know, we are approaching the final exams for 2020-2021, beginning on Thursday May 27th and finishing the following week, depending on the Year level.
The Semester 2/End of Year exams timetable is attached. As you will see, there is a morning, mid-morning, and afternoon exam block. Sometimes the mid-morning block will be used as a study period.
Most students will be expected to follow the same academic day, arriving no later than 07.05 and leaving at 13.30. Some exceptions will be made for Year 10 and 12 students who, due their subject selections, may have 1, 2 or 3 exams in a day. A separate email will be sent out to these parents and students explaining the special drop off and pick up times.
As a reminder, Monday 24th and 25th are holidays so students will study from home.
Wednesday 26th will be a regular school day. Students will have a specialized timetable which will allow them to go to each of their classes for a final review/info session/reminders and a chance for them to ask questions about any problem they came up against on Monday and Tuesday. I encourage all students to attend school on Wednesday as I am sure it will help them in the exams which follow. The Wednesday schedule will be shared with everyone shortly.
Revision Guide: teachers have prepared and shared with students a subject specific revision guide which helps the students focus on the most important points which may appear on the final exam. Parents who wish to help their children revise need only refer to the revision guide and ask them questions based on that document.
Credits: Year 10 and 12 students and their parents are reminded that these exams are important to ensure a credit is achieved. A credit is gained by achieving a grade of 3 or more in a course. Students require 24 credits over 4 years of High School to gain the ISL Diploma.
MAP: the Measure of Academic Progress testing in math and English will take place for the Year 7, 8 and 9 students at the end of the examination week. There is nothing that can be studied for these online tests.
Learning Support: some students will have certain allowances made for these exams. Details will be provided directly to the students and their parents by Ms Zacks and/or their Learning Support teacher.
Malpractice: is generally defined as any action which leads to a student gaining unfair advantage during an examination. While the invigilators will be observing all exams, it is ultimately the student’s decision to try to cheat on the exam or not. Any student who is found committing malpractice will be removed from the exam room but allowed to complete the exam to receive academic feedback. However he/she will receive a zero on the exam and disciplinary action will follow. If disciplinary action includes suspension, then the student would be required to write those exams in a separate location during suspension but receive zeros on all missed exams.
Food/snacks: please keep in mind that the Tuckshop will remain closed. Students will need to bring their own snacks and drinks.
ISL consistency performs at or above the world averages for examination results in the IGCSE and IB Diploma programmes. Internal examinations are essential practice for students to learn how to prepare for and write exams. It is very important that students come to school this week in order to receive all the guidance possible so they can achieve their potential on the exams.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the class Tutor, or the Curriculum Coordinator or the Secondary office for more information.
Best regards,
Craig Patterson
