Dear Primary Parents
Welcome to Semester Two!
We have had a great start to Semester 2 with students being motivated and excited to learn new skills and concepts across the subject areas and to socialize with their friends again.
We had Assemblies to welcome Upper Primary and Early Years to Semester Two
In the Early Years, the focus was on Year Two's shared young inventors. Students were inspired by young people coming up with original inventions and building on inventions that already exist. They were encouraged to come up with their own inventions and with the help of their teachers publish them.
In Upper Primary the focus was on the value of reading. I facilitated the assembly to start off the year by sharing with students why reading is so important to us and how it can impact our lives. We also had our Librarian share the latest books in the Library and announced the top 10 readers each month, which we will publish on this blog.
Reading is a goal for the Primary School this year and we are focussing on reading for pleasure and understanding. Teachers are also teaching students specific reading strategies to help enhance their understanding.
Dear parents, please make time in the evening and the weekends to ask your child to read to you / or depending on their age you should read to them. The love of reading starts at home... have dinner table conversations/discussions around the table as to what your child is reading and learning at school .. a great way to engage your child and share in their learning experience.
The rainy season is upon us, which has caused a temperature drop. Please ensure your child is appropriately dressed for school and does have a warm jacket/rain jacket.
It is quite apt that our Year 3 students are learning about changes in the Earth's atmosphere.
Year 3 - Changes in the Earth's Atmosphere
In Year 3 students have been learning about how changes in the Earth's atmosphere have an impact on the way people live their lives and have been inquiring into the topic.
These are some of the questions asked during their inquiry:
- How has the weather affected you in your everyday life lately?
- How do you know what weather to prepare for?
- What do the symbols on a weather report represent?
- What words would you use to describe the weather?
The Year 3 students have even had a go at delivering a weather forecast for Zambia, mentioning all our local provinces in the process!
Well done to our Year 3 students... who are engaged in learning that involves real-world issues.
Reception - Chinese New Year
Students in Reception, celebrate the different festivals in order to develop an understanding of the diverse cultures in our school.
A warm thank you to all our parents who visited the Reception Classes and shared the significance of many of the rituals.
The photos below capture students engaged in learning about the Chinese New Year! Well Done Reception.
